Political posters represent one of the most visually striking forms of Irish republican communication, serving as tools of propaganda, commemoration, and political mobilisation across more than a century of activism. As ephemera they were produced to be displayed and discarded rather than preserved, making surviving collections of particular value to researchers and historians interested in the visual culture of Irish republicanism.
The Irish Republican Digital Archive holds 295 posters spanning from the early twentieth century through to recent decades, with the primary focus on the period from 1970 onwards. The collection covers the full breadth of the republican tradition and includes material from all major organisations and groupings.
Together they provide a vivid visual record of how republican organisations communicated with supporters and the wider public across more than a century, complementing the documentary and press material held elsewhere in the archive. With 295 items this is the largest publicly accessible collection of Irish republican posters available online, making it a unique and invaluable resource for researchers, historians, and anyone interested in the visual culture of Irish republicanism.
