The Irish Republican Digital Archive is a history project dedicated to collecting, digitising, and freely sharing Irish Republican documents online. Our aim is to make these important historical materials accessible to republicans, students, researchers, and the general public.
The archive currently holds over 5,000 documents spanning more than two centuries of Irish republican history — from the United Irishmen period of 1798 through the revolutionary era, the mid-twentieth century campaigns, and the Troubles period up to the early 2000s. Collections cover every major organisation and tradition within Irish republicanism, including the Provisional and Official movements, the Irish Republican Socialist Party, Republican Sinn Féin, and many others.
Much of this material has been difficult to access — locked away in private collections, lost to time, or available only in academic institutions. Our archive gives open, free access to rare historical documents that are often otherwise unavailable.
- Non-Partisan: We maintain a neutral stance and do not promote any political party or viewpoint.
- Collaborative: The archive relies on public contributions and donations of materials, and has received support from historians, academics, and private collectors who share our commitment to historical preservation.
- Accessible: All materials are freely available to browse, download, and share — no paywalls or logins required.
Scope of the Archive
The archive holds material from all eras of Irish republican history, including the 1798 rebellion, the revolutionary period of 1916–1923, the twilight years of 1924–1948, the campaigns of the 1950s and 1960s, and the Troubles era through to the early 2000s. Collections include newspapers, magazines, organisational documents, Ard Fheis papers, pamphlets, booklets, posters, and ephemera across all major republican traditions.
Documents from all eras and groups are uploaded without commentary or bias. While the primary focus is on material produced before 2005, this is not a strict rule. For historical consistency, we do not routinely include documents from groups formed after 2005.
Sources
Most original documents are scanned from our own archive and the collections of supporters who have generously contributed to the project. A small number may have appeared elsewhere online.
We also hold a large digital collection gathered over the past 25 years from various online sources. Where possible, original sources will be credited, though in some cases this information may no longer be available.
Disclaimer

The documents presented here are archived for educational, academic, and research purposes only.
We do not endorse, promote, or glorify any of the issues or activities detailed on the site. The views, opinions, or language contained in these historical documents are solely those of their original authors or publishers and do not reflect the views of the Archive or its contributors.
Some material may contain politically sensitive or controversial content. These documents are preserved as-is to maintain the integrity of the historical record and should be understood within their original context and time period.
We urge users to approach all documents critically, as primary sources that reflect specific political, cultural, and historical perspectives.
If you have any concerns regarding specific material, or believe a document requires additional contextual information, please contact us.
Quality
We upload materials in the best quality available to us. However, quality may vary depending on the document’s age, condition, and how it was originally scanned. In many cases—especially with rare items—we believe it’s better to preserve and share imperfect copies than to let them be lost entirely.
Fair Use
This archive is made available for educational and research purposes under principles of fair use. We do not claim ownership of the materials, which remain the intellectual property of their original creators. Everything shared has been uploaded in good faith, with the intention of preserving and providing access to important historical records.
If you’re a rights holder and wish to discuss the inclusion or removal of content, please contact us directly.
Donations and Requests
If you have anything to share please email us at Info@republicanarchive.com or message us on Instagram.
We are interested in newspapers, books, pamphlets, leaflets etc related to Irish Republicanism. Visit our submission section for more details.
The material in the archive is presented for others to study, research, and draw their own conclusions from. We are not in a position to provide guidance or assistance on any specific subject or topic contained within the documents.
As an independent project run entirely by a single individual, we are unable to fulfil specific document requests or assist with academic assignments or family history inquiries. Due to limited time and resources, we focus on maintaining and developing the archive and cannot accommodate these types of requests.
